On March 5th, USO Japan and USO Yokosuka celebrated ‘Fat Tuesday’ or a New Orleans style Mardi Gras to Yokosuka. Children made parade floats out of shoeboxes, and families ate Popeyes Chicken and King Cake, all before having a parade around base with the 7th Fleet New Orleans Style Brass Band. The parade floats were judged by leadership from the CNRJ and CFAY command, and later displayed during the parade as families followed the 7th Fleet Brass Band up and down the street. The area was filled with brass instruments playing and caught the attention and admiration of many on the streets and sidewalks.
