Dr. Opal Lee Inspires at Yokosuka: A Day of Connection and Motivation








Dr. Opal Lee, affectionately known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” made a memorable visit to Yokosuka on her recent trip to Japan. Her first stop was Yokosuka Elementary School, where she engaged with 6th and 8th grade students, sharing her inspiring journey and the importance of perseverance and community. In the evening, Dr. Lee was escorted to the Fleet Theater at CFAY Yokosuka military base. Here, she participated in a meet and greet with service members and their families. The event was a wonderful culmination of her day, filled with heartfelt interactions and stories that left everyone in attendance deeply inspired. Dr. Lee’s visit was a remarkable experience for all, highlighting the power of history, education, and unity.
